This evening, the contents of Old Macdonald's Farm included: cats, dogs, chickens, roosters, pigs, cows, squirrels, bears, badgers, ocelots, polar bears, flamingos, elephants, a herd of wildebeest, penguins, a Gaboon viper, kangaroos, humpback whales, a yak, and a Thompson's gazelle.

Liana briefly fell out of love with Old MacDonald's Farm last year at one point when I said "And on that farm he had..." and she came back with "the Moon!" and I had to tell her that the Moon doesn't say anything. She didn't like the possibility that not everything could be plugged into the Farm formula.

when I used to sing "Hush Little Baby" when my boys were tiny, I regularly added extra verses. On Leo's version of Old Macdonald's farm, there are apparently no animals.

Lots of trains, buses, cars, trucks, airplanes, computers, boats, ships, light houses, bell towers, tents, houses, and hammers. No animals. Or farmers, as far as I can tell.

oh yes, I do this all the time too. I usually take a left turn with, "...papa's gonna buy you a porcupine. If that porcupine has quills, papa's gonna buy you a corporate shill" etc.

Rose makes up the noises for a lot of the animals. When we got to kangaroo, she just went "BOING BOING BOING." so we were stuck a bit on the gazelle, and I mentioned that they could run and jump very fast, so she decided that Thompson's Gazelles also went "BOING BOING BOING."

Works for me. Ocelots go "MEOW" (deeper voice than the cats), and Flamingoes go "Tweet Tweet" so there is some category logic at work here.
