Pardon the interruption, but I've been (actually, all of us here have been) very busy chasing the boy, who went from crawling at the speed of sound, to stumbling, to walking very fast indeed in the space of a few days. We're all a little tired, and BOY he sleeps hard these days.

So, mobility, what a concept. True to form, Calvin stopped talking while he was learning to get up on his feet, but now he's stumbling about muttering to himself like an old wino. It is teh kyoot. Sometimes, when he is really excited, he runs around waving his arms in the air, shouting "Wow! Wow! Whoaaaah...Wow!" It reminds me of nothing so much as Dr. Strychnine's "Cthulhu Dance".

He also now says "Up!" and "Out!" at opportune moments. Actually, "Out!" usually goes along with "Shoe? Shoe!", because they go together, you see. He really wants to be outside, wandering into traffic. Ok, he's actually very good about staying on the sidewalk, but when the sidewalk ends, well, that's not danger, that's a learning opportunity! Step down off the curb, turn around, crawl up on the curb, stand up, turn around, go down the curb backwards, stand up, go up the curb, fall down, repeat, repeat, repeat, okthanksborednowI'mrunningintotraffic!!

Best moment of the whole long weekend? He walks up, says "Up!", throws his head against my chest when I pick him up, says "awwwww", blows me a kiss, then wriggles so he can be put down to go wreak havoc. [See me go all melty inside].

More later.

Cute. Very cute.

Actually, the "Shoe!" quote reminds me of a tale involving someone else's child. At about 15 months (IIRC), she was the star attraction at a gathering of her mother's friends. She also had a shoe fixation, so she worked her way round the group, pointing at the guests' footwear and exclaiming:

"Shoes!

"Shoes!

"Shoes!

"Shoes!

"Dirty!" (with the appropriate tone of reproof, and pointing at the latest set of footwear)
