Meet Ellie, the 10 month old Shepard/Lab/Something mix we adopted today. Click a couple of times for a bigger pic. She is somewhat dopey and achy from the spaying but so far is exactly the big, non-barky, cuddly lovemuffin we expected from meeting her at the shelter 4 or 5 times. Note particularly the 25% floppy ears, as previously mentioned by [livejournal.com profile] canetoad, and the lovely coloring. Note also, her chosen location.

Not shown: my dinner. Which had been occupying various parts of this table shortly prior to this picture, while 1) I was unpacking my bag from work and 2) certain other persons, who shall not here be named, were distracted momentarily. So how were the duck sausage? I'll never know, but Ellie rates them five face-licks.

This picture is in your house? I can't get oriented... what is that the door to? And was your only response to having your dinner heisted to take pictures and receive face licks?

Yeah, that's in the house (cropped it a little too close I guess). I forget where things were the last time you were here, but that door is in the sprawling kitchen space and leads straight out to the front door.

My response to the dinner heist was to remove all remaining food, plates, and glassware-- she dumped a full glass of water on the floor but our new glasses are both child AND dog proof!-- fail to coax her off the table[1], take picture, get her off the table for real, face licks, fix a plate of leftovers, and finally eat.

[1] She's got sore surgery tummy and I've still got a bum wing so lifting her off the table wasn't going to work for either one of us. A chair-step-stool and some pushing got her down.

Thanks for the clarification on house orientation. I believe Annie's desk and a playpen for Rosie were approximately in that location the last time I was there. And I think the walls were a different color?

Anyway, the dog is adorable... good luck with the getting on the table thing. Hopefully she wants to please more than she wants duck sausage.

We'll be doing a lot of "I'm the alpha dog and these are my alpha pups" training in the days ahead. Last night she was literally whining with hunger, having not eaten (due to spaying surgery) for 24 hours.

She is generally well-socialized around people and quick to follow a command (but not consistently yet). She also is not aggressive around other dogs, and we'll also be doing more of that kind of socializing in the days ahead.

First, though, she does need to recover from the surgery.

Now that is a dog who knows her place at the family table in the family.

How did she manage to get up there with all her soreness, one wonders.

She has almost a Great Dane-ish looking face. And I love the ears!
Congrats.
