McCain took 46%, roughly, of the popular vote. That means that around 40% of Americans are still REALLY GETTING OFF on the delusion that they are wealthy and/or successful enough to benefit from Republican tax policies.

"When I grow up, I want to be someone who benefits from tax cuts."

Do keep in mind "What's the matter with Kansas?" - there are still a lot of moral "family values" single-issue voters (like the increasing number of Catholics voting Republican these days). they don't care about taxes, they care about their guns. they don't care about taxes, they care about stopping abortion. they don't care about taxes, they care about school prayer and "activist judges".

It truly disturbs me how many conservative acquaintances I have online are bemoaning how their taxes are now going to be raised. These are not rich people, either.

This is about branding. It is like a sports team; people buy the t-shirts and other crap, it's "their" team. Many won't change alliance no matter how many times the team loses. They certainly don't care much if the team members do various illegal or immoral things, or what the owners do with the money. There isn't hardly anything that will change their stance, logic does not figure into it.

Lovely analogy. and, another reason for suppressing the petite-nationalism represented in the average sport's fans rabid loyalty to the local team. Love of the game? Sure. Aesthetic appreciation of certain plays or players? Of course. Rooting for your college football team when you are 40 and don't bet on the games? Grow up.

Well it's not like you can cut taxes for people who barely pay them in the first place...

Well, not just that. There's also the hordes that voted against Obama because he's a socialist/nigger/Muslim/tax-lovin' Democrat.

Core to my OVERSIMPLIFIED argument are the twin cliches:
1. Anyone can be bought.
2. Money talks, bullshit walks.
