Stem cell lines...
Jan. 24th, 2005 04:52 pmBy now you may have seen the articles about contaminated stem cell lines. So, no federal funds can be used for new stem cell research, and the "Approved" lines are now rendered useless. Another black feather in the cap of the worst president ever.
What you may not have seen yet, though, is this article on the evolutionary history of the sugars involved in the stem cell line contamination. So, to stretch the point a bit, if U.S. schools teach evolution, we increase the odds of getting good healthy medicine, whereas if evolution is suppressed as a research topic, we could wind up with, as the article puts it, "developmental defects." That's just fascinating; the presidents agenda of stifling both evolution and stem cell research could end up making that research, no matter how promising, directly harmful to humans. Great research and a handy double-whammy smack in the face of the administration. Worth a read.
