There is minimal overlap in my FL for this one, so, a courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] ctd, (see original post) here is a pointer to an article from a music insider, talking about Aspen Live, a recent media industry event where Chris Sacca from Google presented. Scrolling halfway down through the back-patting and posturing, we learn that:
  • Google can predict the gross for a movie ([livejournal.com profile] ctd and I read this differently, I believe they mean the lifetime gross vs. the opening weekend gross??), with 82% accuracy, six weeks before release, just based on the number of searches. That's typically before the studio has blown its marketing budget. Wanna bet Google has already "monetized this asset"?

  • Google says interest in a new music single is never higher than when it first comes out on the radio, which is also when you can't ever buy it anywhere. Long rant on dumb people running the music business follows, somewhat entertaining.
I would love to know more about this kind of Google-derived intelligence, because, you know, COOL.
